Access to buses

The ease with which we access jobs and essential services has a major bearing on our quality of life.

Green Circle Core Strategy Target 14.7

Ensure that all new development is located within 400 metres of a bus stop.

This target is on track.

All residential and commercial developments completed in 2010 to 2011 were located within 400 metres of a bus stop with the exception of an employment unit at Forresters Business Park.

The nearest bus stops for Forresters Business Park are located along the Estover Road loop and are between 400 and 500 metres away from the furthest employment units. The outline planning approval for the Business Park was issued in November 1998, prior to the introduction of the Core Strategy policy and target, and did not contain a requirement for a bus turning circle. Without such a facility it is highly unlikely that any bus operator would extend services into Estover Close.

This exception is so small compared to the total development delivered in 2010 to 2011, and as it is close to the 400m target it is reasonable to conclude that this target has been met.

Plymouth Transport and Highways through Plymouth’s Third Local Transport Plan 2011-2026 will seek to ensure that access is improved for everyone accessing planned future development.
