Statement of Accounts 2009 to 2010
The Council is required to produce an annual Statement of Accounts. This document shows local people and others what services the Council has spent money on during the year, how these have been funded, and the financial position at the year-end. Inevitably, as it is the statutory form of the accounts, it contains technical language so a glossary to help explain some of the terms can be found at the back of the document.
The draft Statement of Accounts for 2009 to 2010 was approved by the Audit Committee on 28 June 2010. The draft accounts will now be audited by Grant Thornton UK and the auditor will then issue an opinion which will state whether he is satisfied with the accounts. The audit is due to start on 5 July 2010. The final audited accounts together with the auditor opinion must be published by 30 September 2010.
The Accounts and Audit Regulations require that the accounts are available for public inspection for four weeks and this year the period of inspection starts on 5 July 2010. A document published by the Audit Commission which sets out how one can inspect, ask the auditor questions about, or object to your council's accounts can be downloaded from the documents table below.
The total allowances paid to Members are disclosed within the Statement of Accounts each year. Details of Member's allowances paid in 2009 to 2010 are available from the Members allowances and expenses page.
The Council's draft Statement of Accounts (subject to audit) for 2009 to 2010 can be downloaded from the documents table below. Previous years accounts are also available for download.
