Approval as an adoptive parent
The agency decision-maker for Plymouth City Council is the Assistant Director for our Children's Social Care Services. You will be informed of their decision in writing within seven days. Although they have the power to decline the Panel's recommendation, in practice this is very rare. Once you have been approved as an adopter for Plymouth, we will start trying to match you with a child!
Should you disagree with the Adoption and Permanence Panel and decision-maker's decision, you are entitled to represent your case via the internal complaints system. If the outcome is still dissatisfactory to you then you can ask for your case to be heard by the Independent Review Mechanism.
