The Preparation Group
"The training sessions were invaluable - it was good to meet other prospective adopters."
At some point during your assessment you will be required to attend a Preparation Group in which you will meet other prospective adopters to learn more about adoption and get all the information you need to make an informed choice.
It will help you prepare for the various issues that adoption might raise, building on your strengths and teaching you how to work through situations such as preparing to adopt a child, meeting an adopted child's needs, understanding their past and dealing with challenging behaviour. It will also give you the opportunity to meet experienced adopters, other Social Workers who specialise in adoption and adopted people.
People who have attended previous Preparation Groups in Plymouth have told us that they are an enjoyable way of learning about adoption in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
