Annual canvass of households

The Register of Electors is updated annually and for 2012 published on 16 October.

The annual canvass of households will be taking place earlier than usual. This is due to the election for a Police and Crime commissioner taking place on 15 November 2012. Voter registration forms will be posted to all households during early June.

This year the Council will send over 116,000 voter registration forms to households across the city asking residents to confirm their details so that the electoral register is up-to-date and everyone who is entitled to vote can do so.

Residents who have no changes to make to their form can now confirm their details from 1 June to 5 October 2012 by an automated phone line or online, making it even easier to register. If you still live at the same address and with the same people as last year you can just call 0808 284 1425 or register to vote online on our electoral registration website. To confirm your details online or by phone you will need the security codes that are printed on your voter registration form that we sent you. More than 14,000 households used this service last year.

If you have recently moved or there have been changes to the people living with you, you will need to complete and return the paper form as usual.

This will keep the electoral register as accurate as possible.

If a form is not returned a postal reminder is sent or a visit made by personal canvassers to encourage householders to complete a form.

Electoral canvassers are employed during July and August. If you are interested in working as an Electoral Canvasser please contact Pertemps on 01752 604700 for further information.
