Recycling centres

To use our recycling centres you need to provide proof of your Plymouth address. This can be one of the following:

  • Council Tax bill
  • driving licence
  • gas or electricity bill

Chelson Meadow

Chelson Meadow recycling centre is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm, 7 days a week. Except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

  • General household waste
  • Bulky waste items such as sofa’s, armchairs, mattresses, and furniture
  • Wood
  • Garden waste
  • Scrap metal
  • Fridges, freezers, and fridge/freezers (not commercial)
  • Small electrical items, hairdryers, toasters, microwaves etc
  • Large electrical items, cookers, washing machines, tumble-dryers.
  • TV’s, computer monitors
  • Recycling 'bring bank' items, clothing, paper, cans, cartons and glass bottles
  • Antifreeze
  • Household chemicals
  • Car or household batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes and low energy lamps
  • Gas bottles
  • Cooking oil
  • Engine oil
  • Asbestos
  • Paint
  • Soil and rubble
  • Ceramics
  • Plasterboard
  • Window glass

Book a visit to take DIY waste

If you are doing DIY projects you can bring soil, rubble, ceramics and plasterboard to Chelson Meadow for free if:

  • you live at the property and you are carrying out your own construction/demolition work
  • you have not paid for construction, demolition or preparatory work
  • you have not made more than 4 DIY waste visits to Chelson Meadow in a 4 week period
  • you are bringing two 50 litre bags or less
  • a single article of waste no larger than 2000mm x 750mm x 700mm in size

Booking to take DIY waste to Chelson Meadow should take around 5 minutes. You will be asked for:

  • your address
  • your vehicle registration
  • your contact details
  • the date of your visit
WarningIf you need to make more than 4 visits in a 4 week period you will need to pay an additional charge.

Waste charges

  • A bag is a small, plastic sand/aggregate bag from standard DIY stores that can be safely lifted by one person.
  • The charges payable will be based upon the quantity of material to be deposited using the rates given as an indicative guide.
  • Items such as a toilet pan, toilet cistern, sink, sink pedestal etc will be charged as single items.
  • The staff member's decision on the actual charge is final.
Waste Cost
Soil/Rubble
Including bricks, breeze blocks, concrete, drainage pipes (ceramic/porcelain), gravel, hardcore, paving slabs, rubble, sand, sanitary ware (ceramic/porcelain toilets, bidets, sinks, shower trays, pipes, etc.), soil, slates/slabs, stones, tarmac, tiles (ceramic, porcelain, floor, roof, wall) and turf.
£2.55 per bag or item

£63.50 for loose material presented in a small trailer (trailer permit required)

£127 for loose material presented in a large trailer (trailer permit required)
Plasterboard £6.35 per bag or sheet

Payment Information

  • Payment will be taken on site by Credit/debit card only. We do not accept cash.

Weston Mill

Weston Mill recycling centre is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm every Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The centre is closed from Tuesday to Thursday.
