Do I have to be a member of the library?
No, But if you're not a member then you will be asked to join when you take your prescription into the library. As long as the prescription has your name and address on it, you won't be asked for any other proof of identity.
What if the book isn't available?
We have bought several copies of each title on the list. If all of them are on loan, you will be offered a free reservation so we can get the book to you as quickly as possible. Library staff can do this for you.
How long can I keep the book?
You can keep the book for up to three weeks. If you'd like to keep it longer you can renew it. More about renewing books.
Is the scheme confidential?
Library staff are professionals and will treat you with respect. They won't divulge any information about who is borrowing a book or what it is about.
What if the book has pages to be filled in?
Some of the books have assessments, diary sheets etc. If you are using a library book, then please make a copy before filling them in.
What sort of problems can the books help with?
The titles on the booklist cover many of the most common problems that people experience. View the self-help booklist on the library catalogue.
What if the book doesn't help?
The books on the list can often be helpful, but they may not work for everyone. If you are still experiencing difficulty or distress then you need to go back to whoever prescribed the book or visit your GP. They will give you further advice.
Who's involved in the Devon book prescription scheme?
The scheme is a collaboration between the library services within Devon - Plymouth, Torbay and Devon - the University of Plymouth and several of the Devon primary care trusts.
