What does building control do?
Building control regulates the construction of buildings, ensuring they meet the standards set out in the building regulations. They make sure that buildings are structurally sound, safe in the event of fire, have adequate drainage, ventilation and toilet facilities, are accessible for disabled persons and are energy efficient to heat and light.
The building regulations are supported by technical documents that set out acceptable standards to which buildings should be constructed. Building control ensure these standards are met, by approving drawings and calculations as well as inspecting work on-site.
Do I need to apply for building regulations consent?
Various works can be carried out without the need to make an application. You can find more information on this topic on the building control pages, by calling building control on 01752 304343 or by visiting the development enquiry point in the Civic Centre.
How do I go about applying?
There are two types of application you can make - full plans and building notice. The types of application page give you some more detailed information about these. Alternatively, you can call building control on 01752 304343 or visit the development enquiry point in the Civic Centre.
