About us

The City Development Company (CDC) is one of the first development companies to be set up in the UK following the publication of a Government white paper promoting the benefits of this approach to regeneration.

The CDC allows Plymouth to:

  • Re-think its economic development business
  • Re-focus its priorities and activities
  • Re-engineer the way Plymouth approaches its economic development business
  • Re-invigorate and change the culture and attitudes in Plymouth, bringing new energy and thinking.

The CDC is a company limited by guarantee and has a board consisting of private sector members as well as representatives from the founding member organisations - South West of England Regional Development Agency, the Homes and Communities Agency and Plymouth City Council, each of whom have committed three years of funding at £250,000 a year.

The CDC’s mission is to provide the lead for a step-change in the delivery of Plymouth’s economic growth to create a place where people choose to live, work, study and play.

The CDC’s work plan, which sets out its aims and objectives to meet this mission was launched at a breakfast event attended by over 200 representatives from the public, private, and third sectors on Plymouth Hoe on Friday 26 September 2008.

CDC Chair James Brent provided the opening speech, with Chief Executive Paul Carroll presenting the plan and inviting questions from the audience.
