2015 / 2016 council tax bills

We have started to send out the 2015 / 2016 council tax bills.  If you have not yet received your bill you should receive it by 14 March.  If you pay by direct debit on the 1st of the month please note your first instalment for 2015 / 2016 is 1 April.  If you have recently told us you have moved we may not have updated your account but we will aim to do this in the next 14 days and send you an updated bill.

If you are entitled to Council Tax Support this will be included on your bill.  If you receive maximum Council Tax Support your bill will show a nil balance and this means you have nothing to pay.  If you have recently made a claim or informed us of a change in your circumstances for Council Tax Support this may not have been updated on your bill but when we have updated your claim, if it changes your payments, we will send you a new bill.  Please pay the bill you have until the new one arrives.

Scams and bogus calls

Local residents have been receiving telephone calls from people claiming to be from our council tax department, stating they are due a large refund.

Residents are then asked to provide their bank details so that a refund can be made.

We do not, and would not, make these telephone calls and would never telephone unexpectedly regarding a council tax refund nor would staff ask for bank or credit card details by telephone to process a refund.

If anyone receives such a call they should refuse to disclose information and phone us on 01752 668000. Our staff will confirm whether any refund is outstanding and if so arrange a refund in the normal manner.

We take many payments securely by telephone every day from residents, but we do not refund to cards. If anyone has passed details of their bank or credit card to anyone recently regarding a refund, they should contact their bank branch or card company immediately.

Further information and documents

Your council tax helps pay for a huge range of services.

Income from the council tax provides 16 per cent of the Council's annual revenue budget of £204.6 million.

This budget enables us to provide more than 300 services for Plymouth residents. These include keeping our streets clean, keeping us all on the move, enabling our children to achieve and enjoy their schools, as well as be on hand for key moments of people's lives, such as weddings and registering births.

Like all public organisations we face challenging times as the Government reduces its funding for local public services.

Our Finance Plan below shows how we are prioritising our budget and addressing these challenges.
