Aims of the early years service

The Early Years Service (Advisory Support, Childcare 0-19 and Children's Centres) is a part of the Council's Services for Children and Young People. We support early years and childcare provision and children's centres in Plymouth.

We believe that children and young people deserve the best opportunities to reach their full potential and our service aims to provide effective advice and support to enable improved outcomes for all children and raise their aspirations.

The strategic aim of our service is:

"To improve outcomes for all children and to narrow the gap between those who are the most and the least vulnerable through the provision of child centred, high quality, safe, inclusive and integrated services for children aged 0-5."

Early Years Strategic Plan 2011-14.

We offer support and advice to all early years providers and children's centres and can provide advice on a range of aspects including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and welfare requirements with, Ofsted inspections and registers, transitions, childcare qualifications and funding, quality assurance schemes, children and families with English as an additional language and sustainability.

We also focus on providing high quality training, continual professional development and the upskilling of the early years workforce to provide better outcomes for children.

The Early Years Service structure chart which outline the teams and job roles within the service is below.
