Tackling absence from school

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES), in partnership with the United Kingdom travel industry, launched the Every Lesson Counts campaign in November 2005. The campaign highlights incentives available to families who book their breaks early for the school holiday periods, rather than opting for a trip during term time.

The Every Lesson Counts website provides links to key early booking deals on domestic and overseas holidays as well as offers specially tailored for the campaign by major holiday companies such as Thomas Cook, Airtours, British Airways, Virgin Holidays and the Co-Operative Group.

The campaign aims to create awareness among parents and young people on the importance of attending school and the website provides practical suggestions and advice to parents to help them improve their child's attendance.
