Plymouth Flavour Fest returns for 2009 and it’s better than ever

Prepare your taste buds for Plymouth's local produce extravaganza at Britain's best farmers market - Plymouth Flavour Fest 2009. Taking place from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August 2009 in Plymouth City Centre's Piazza Flavour Fest is part of the Plymouth Summer Festival and is a highlight of the Southwest’s food and drink calendar.

Flavour Fest was the brainchild of the Plymouth City Centre Company and local Michelin-starred chef Jacques Marchal, who for over 25 years ran the Chez Nous restaurant in the centre of Plymouth. Plymouth Flavour Fest 2009 will have over 100 food stalls packed with tasty offerings from fine food producers across the South West.

The popular Cookery Theatre will be back, organized by Jacques in association with Lawsons and Castles Kitchens, showcasing inspiring techniques by top local chefs. On Friday 14 August the Cookery Theatre will host BBC Spotlight’s local version of 'Ready, Steady, Cook'.

Back from last year’s success the 'Kids Marquee' will give children the chance to have a hands-on approach to food and will encourage them to take an active interest and understand what goes into their food, and in turn promote healthy eating.

Plymouth Flavour Fest takes place on the Piazza, in Plymouth City Centre, which is transformed into a bustling, Continental-style market, full of colour and the smells of delicious food being prepared. Fine food producers from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset will be offering locally produced food, ranging from organic meat and vegetables to oysters and delicious preserves.

The event will again be linking up with local restaurants, inviting them to produce a Flavour Fest special dish during the week of the event, prepared using the best in locally sourced produce.

Plymouth Flavour Fest is organised by the Plymouth City Centre Company as part of the Business Improvement District (BID) initiative and is one of a range of events supporting Plymouth's position as the South West's number one shopping destination and a clean, safe environment for families to enjoy a day out.
