Primary School Reorganisation in Ham and North Prospect
A Plymouth City Council school reorganisation project in partnership with the governing bodies of Ham Drive Nursery, North Prospect Primary and South Trelawny Primary Schools.
In September 2009, North Prospect and South Trelawny Primary Schools will be replaced by a brand new, state-of-the-art community primary school on a site next to Ham Drive Nursery School. The new school will have 420 pupil places, an Admission Number of 60 pupils per year-group and community facilities. Additional pre-school places will be provided at Ham Drive Nursery School.
The new primary school in Ham Drive is expected to:
- improve even further the quality of teaching and learning in the area;
- build a better, more up-to-date learning environment, because the current facilities are outdated and in generally poor condition;
- remove surplus capacity and so release funds that could be better spent on teaching and learning;
- invest in Ham and North Prospect to enable children, parents and the local community to have easier access to better sports, arts and educational facilities during and outside normal school hours and in the school holidays, as well as to other local services the community needs.
The plan to replace North Prospect and South Trelawny Schools with a new school gained final approval from the Schools Adjudicator in July 2007 (on condition that planning consent is obtained by the end of March 2008) following detailed consultations with all interested parties and the completion of all statutory procedures.
The Council has consulted with all interested parties on a proposal to relocate the Special Support Centre for pupils with significant communication difficulties from South Trelawny Primary School, where it is currently located, to the new school in Ham Drive when South Trelawny closes in August 2009, the Council considered a report on the outcomes of the consultation and resolved to publish formal proposals (Public Notice).
