Midland House - one stop housing advice in Plymouth
Anyone looking for Housing Advice, Information or Support in Plymouth will benefit from a one-stop advice shop opened by the Housing Services of Plymouth City Council.
Members of the public can come to a single point to get advice, be assessed for housing needs, make enquiries about accommodation and allocations and be signposted to other agencies in the city in the private and charitable sector.
The ground floor is also a reception point for Children's Services and the Youth Offending Team.
Comments, compliments or concerns on the services to housingfeedback@plymouth.gov.uk.
Devon Home Choice
Devon Home Choice is a new way of letting social rented homes in Plymouth. This is part of a Devon wide housing register and Choice Based Letting scheme.
You can pick up Devon Home Choice forms from Midland House, Notte Street, Plymouth PL1 2EJ.
Homelessness
Housing and Residential Services has a homeless unit which specialises in dealing with people who are homeless, threatened with or who may have serious domestic problems at their existing home which could result in homelessness.
The City Council has a duty to investigate cases of homelessness and depending upon circumstances can help with re-housing or provide advice and assistance.
For further information contact Housing Services Homeless Unit as above.
The City Council has adopted a strategy which is available along with associated documents on the homelessness strategy page.
Sheltered housing
Applicants for sheltered housing need to be registered with Devon Home Choice. This can be done online on the Devon Home Choice website although paper forms are also available for those who need them. If you would like a paper form these are available from the offices of most of our partner housing association landlords, as well as from Plymouth City Council at Midland House, Notte Street, Plymouth, PL1 2EJ (phone 01752 305496). If you want to be considered for sheltered housing you should tick the box 'require sheltered accommodation' when you answer question 17 on the form.
Applicants seeking sheltered housing will be able to bid for homes advertised in Devon Home Choice, subject to any additional eligibility criteria (for example age) that the adverts may show. Before being offered a tenancy in any sheltered housing schemes, the landlord would need to check that you were in need of the support services available.
Housing associations
A number of housing associations operate in Plymouth providing accommodation and/or specialist support services. Access to housing association properties is via the Plymouth housing register or nomination by Plymouth City Council.
