Moving out of business premises
As soon as you property becomes empty please let us know by writing to the national non domestic rates section or telephone us on 01752 304966 or 01752 304897 (between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday) or by completing the change of circumstance form.
Always quote your payment reference number. It helps us deal with your enquiry quickly.
All stock and effects have to be removed before we can cease your liability to business rates. Fixtures and fittings or items that are permanently fixed to the wall or floor are not classed as stock.
If you need to check, please call one of the telephone numbers above.
An inspector will need access to the premises to confirm that it is empty before we can close your account.
When you call us the following information is required:
- the date the property became empty
- the date the property was sold/is to be sold or the date the lease ceased/is to cease
- you full name, address and contact number of new owner. If a leased property, the name, address and telephone number of your landlord or the new leaseholder
If you have vacated the property and it has not been sold or the lease has not ceased, you may be able to apply for empty property rates. This exemption can last for a period of up to three months after the date you vacate the property.
Property already empty
If you have sold your property or the lease has ceased please let us know immediately (see above for the information we need).
If you are a landlord and you have let your property or you are a tenant and have sublet your premises, please let us know the following:
- your full name, address and contact telephone number of the occupier including trading name
- the date that tenancy/lease commenced
