Licences and permits
Amusement with prizes permitA permit is required under the Gaming Act 1968 for premises that provide amusements with prizes by way of machines.
Boats and boatpersons licence
A licence is required for the carriage of passengers for hire to and from landing stages within the Plymouth area including the waters of Plymouth Sound and the Hamoaze.
Charitable public information event licence
A permit is required for charitable or fundraising events and events of a commercial nature held in the city centre.
Dog breeding licence
A licence is required for any person to keep a breeding establishment on premises where more than two bitches are kept for the purposes of breeding for sale.
Door staff licence
Registration is required from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for door supervisors working at nightclubs and similar premises.
Exotic, dangerous and wild animals licence
A licence is required under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 to keep certain species of dangerous wild animals.
Explosives licence
A licence is required under the Manufacture and Storage of Explosives Regulations 2005 for the registration and storage of all explosives.
Gambling licence
A licence will be required under the Gambling Act 2005 for premises such as bingo halls, betting offices, adult gaming centres, licensed family entertainment centres and casinos.
House to house collection permit
A permit is required under the House to House Collections Act 1939 to undertake a house to house collection, which includes visits to public houses, factories and offices.
Massage and special treatment licence
Registration is required for premises, which provide a wide variety of treatments, the main ones being skin piercing and hairdressing.
Motor salvage licence
Registration is required under the Vehicles (Crimes) Act 2001 and the Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 for motor salvage operators to carry out their business.
Nursing licence
A licence is required from the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) for the licensing and enforcement of nursing agencies.
Performance and stage licence
A licence is requires for any child taking part in performances, including all broadcast performances, child photography or modelling.
Pet shop licence
A licence is required under the Pet Animals Act 1951 to authorise the keeping and running of a pet shop.
Poisons licence
A licence is required for under the Poisons Act 1972 of certain specific chemicals to be sold by pharmacies.
Public entertainments licence
A licence is required if you are providing entertainment to which members of the public attend, free or not, and it consists of substantial musical element.
Scrap metal dealers licence
Registration is required for anyone operating as a scrap metal dealer who has a business that consists wholly or partly of buying and selling scrap metal.
Sex establishments licence
A licence is required under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 for any sex establishment which can either be a sex shop or a sex cinema.
Street collection permit
A permit is required under the Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1916 and Charities Act 1992 for a street collection for charitable or similar purposes.
Street trading licence
A licence is required under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 for street trading, the selling or offering for sale of any article in the street.
Taxi and private hire licence
A licence is required for hackney carriage vehicles (taxis), private hire vehicles, their drivers and operators.
Weighbridge operators licence
A licence is required from a Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures, for anyone who carries out public weighings for a charge.
