Plymouth's potential
Plymouth’s potential catchment (Experian May 2003)
Plymouth is the 14th largest city in the UK, yet its national retail ranking stands at only 29th. A poor public perception of the city centre has led to a failure to attract the relatively affluent shoppers in outlying catchment areas. The total high street expenditure available within Plymouth’s catchment area is £1,094 million. However, analysis by Experian has identified that only £600 million of the total expenditure available within Plymouth’s catchment area is actually spent in the city centre.
Plymouth has the potential to be the major regional centre for the west. Plymouth is also ideally positioned to benefit from population growth due to its attractive lifestyle proposition.
