Farmers market
9 August
Sundial
With 25 stalls setting up twice a month selling a wide variety of local produce, the city centre farmers market is a lively and bustling market to visit. Situated by the sundial in the heart of the city centre shoppers can source produce which has been reared, grown or made by local farmers.
Visitors to the market can expect to find locally reared ostrich meat, pork, beef, lamb, locally grown strawberries and vegetables, plus locally produced cheeses, chutney, pies and pasties. The market is held in the city centre on the second Saturday of the month and is open from 9am to 5pm.
Volkswagen (VW) bugs day
9 August
Frankfort Gate
Beetles about for the Independent Quarter’s VW bugs day
Frankfort Gate in Plymouth’s Independent Quarter will be a buzz of activity on Saturday 9 August as it plays host to its first VW bugs day from 10am to 4pm.
Star of Disney/Pixar’s recent box office hit film Cars, Filmar, a 1960’s VW bus, will be taking time out from his busy schedule to take part in the event. He’ll be joining fellow VW campers and beetles for a day of fun, inspired by the iconic VW.
More than ten vehicles will take part in VW bugs day, including classic split-screen and bay VW campervans.
Everyone is welcome at the event, organised by Val Cass from Beaux Cadeaux. The day will offer something for the whole family, along with a selection of VW’s. Visitors will be able to enjoy the free entertainment, including music, and will be able to enter competitions to win VW themed prizes and lots more.
Flavour Fest
15 August to 17 August 2008
Piazza and Armada Way
Plymouth Flavour Fest is once more set to take place on the City Centre’s Piazza over the weekend of 15, 16 and 17 August 2008.
With over 120 of the region’s best food producers expected to take part, Flavour Fest 2008 promises to be a culinary extravaganza not to be missed.
Once again the Piazza will be turned into a bustling continental-style market, full of colour and the smells of delicious food being prepared. If this isn’t enough to tempt your taste buds the cookery theatre will be hosting demonstrations by local and nationally acclaimed chefs.
There will also be some new ‘not to be missed’ additions to the event. Watch these pages over the coming months for further information.
Traders wishing to book a stall at Plymouth Flavour Fest should email citycentre@plymouth.gov.uk for details.
