With 25 stalls setting up twice a month selling a wide variety of local produce, the city centre farmers market is a lively and bustling market to visit. Situated by the sundial in the heart of the city centre shoppers can source produce which has been reared, grown or made by local farmers.

Visitors to the market can expect to find locally reared ostrich meat, pork, beef, lamb, locally grown strawberries and vegetables, plus locally produced cheeses, chutney, pies and pasties. The market is held in the city centre on the second Saturday of the month and is open from 9am to 5pm.


National no smoking day

12 March
Place de Brest

Join the Plymouth NHS Stop Smoking Service at Place de Brest from 9am to 5pm on National no smoking day. An action packed marquee with advice, support and information on stopping smoking, face painting, a kick around with Plymouth Argyle, aerobics, blood pressure testing, dental service, exercise and a visit from the Fire and Rescue Service. Take the great no smoking day challenge - can you last a week?

Star Wars day

Rub shoulders with Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Klone Troopers and other Star Wars characters. Have your photograph taken or your face painted. Come along in fancy dress and win a prize - judging at 2pm.

Continental market

27 to 30 March, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9am to 5.30pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm

Some of the finest in European food, drink and craftwork will be on offer when Plymouth City Centre welcomes back the hugely popular continental market.

Already the largest event of its kind in the south west, the continental market promises to be even bigger and better this year. Traders from France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Holland, Poland, Hungary and Greece will provide a real taste of Europe at the event being held in the Armada Way piazza.

Traders such as Dutch Plant seller Dirk van de Wardt will be attending again with his wonderful array of plants, shrubs, and trees not to mention those famous Dutch bulbs. Also back will be Karl Heinz from Germany with his traditional Round Stall (Schwencklegrille) selling Bratwurst sausages and some great German beer.

Other feature food stalls will include a delightful Greek deli, Italian soft nougat, a range of Italian fine biscuits, French cheese, French bread and patisserie.

As well as the great food there will be leather goods and fashion wear from Paris, sheepskin and designer jewellery from Poland, Italian silk scarves and ties and even speciality soaps from Marseille.


First Devon and Cornwall
