Parking zones
A controlled parking zone (CPZ) is an area where on street parking is controlled. This means that parking is only permitted in designated parking bays and that the remainder of the kerbside space is subject to yellow line restrictions.
It’s main aim is to discourage commuter and long stay parking by people from outside the area. To make sure that it works fairly, zones are enforced by uniformed parking attendants. We will only introduce a CPZ where there is support from the majority of residents.
The Transportation, Infrastructure and Engineering Department is responsible for the design, and regular reviews of the schemes.
Currently Plymouth central area has 34 schemes in operation, the majority or which operate Monday to Saturday. However, this is currently under review. The different CPZs within Plymouth have different hours of operation. These are indicated on the signs for each area, so check the signs before you park. During these periods many spaces are reserved for residents permit holders and visitor permit holders only. Outside of these times, permits are not required and visitors are not required to pay to park.
Penalty charge notices (PCNs) are issued to any parked vehicle that does not display a valid permit or voucher during operational hours.
If you live, work or visit an area which is within a controlled parking zone, then you need to be aware of the parking restrictions and that you will need to use the specially provided parking spaces (eg metered, pay and display, or permit holder).
