Plymouth Registration Service
Plymouth Registration Service is provided by Plymouth City Council and is pleased to be able to provide a wide range of services to the city community and visitors.
There are few people who do not need to use the registration service at some time. Increasingly, documentary evidence, particularly of age and marital status, is needed for official and other purposes and it is therefore important that complete and accurate records of births, marriages and deaths are kept.
These records also form a basic, continuous source of vital information about the population. They are used along with other data sources, for example, the census of population, for many purposes including planning of schools, hospitals and housing and for medical research into the causes and prevention of disease.
Plymouth City Council also provides services for the well being of the community and to support the values of family life.
Services available:
- Registration of births
- Registration of deaths
- Marriages
- Civil partnership
- Citizenship ceremonies
- Issue of certificates
- Re-affirmation of marriage vows
- Commitment ceremonies
- Naming ceremonies
Location of the Register Office
The Register Office is situated on the Hoe a short distance from the city centre in a purpose built suite of rooms opened on 7 April 1982. It is easily accessible by public transport and there is a small car park for clients of the office. Pay and Display parking is available in the roads surrounding the office or a multi-story car park a short walk away.
The reception and offices for registering births and deaths or for giving notices of marriage are situated on the first floor accessible by stairs and lift. The marriage suite is to be found on the ground floor and consists of two marriage rooms and a reception area.
Outside there is a small garden where photographs can be taken. The extensive lawns and flowerbeds on Plymouth Hoe, which overlook the sea, lie adjacent to the register office and provide another photo opportunity following a wedding.
You can order further copies of your marriage certificate any time, contact the register office, details in the right hand column.
An appointment system operates for Birth and Death Registrations, Giving Notice, Marriage Ceremonies and Civil Partnership Registrations. Call 01752 268331 to make an appointment.
