Compact codes of good practice
What is the Plymouth Compact?
The Plymouth Compact is an agreement between local public sector bodies and the voluntary and community sector to support and improve partnership working between the public, private and voluntary and community sector organisations - such as those in local government, health, education, crime reduction, businesses and local community groups.
It is underpinned by codes of practice, based on the national codes, which cover the following areas:
- Black and minority ethnic voluntary and community organisations
- Community groups
- Consultation and policy appraisal
- Funding and procurement
- Volunteering
The Plymouth Compact and its codes contain specific undertakings for each sector, as well as a series of joint undertakings, which aim to make a positive impact on partnership working in the city. In this context, the term 'undertaking' commits partners to work towards the principle or action in question.
Community involvement is vital to improving the quality of life for people in Plymouth. Each sector has its own set of responsibilities and constraints. We set out to gain feedback on the three priority codes for Plymouth.
- Black and minority ethnic community associations
- Funding and procurement
- Consultation and policy appraisal
Plymouth now has a refreshed Compact in place to help develop and improve relationships between the community and voluntary sector, public and private sector across the city. It forms part of our Third Sector Strategy.
Thank you for your responses to our consultation on the Codes of Practice. We are grateful for your comments and have taken on board suggestions for improving the wording of the codes when we draft the final versions. A summary of responses received together with the working group comments can be found in the documents table below.
