At the core of the service is a sophisticated information and enquiry centre which is supported by a network of specialist advisers. It is also linked to a wide range of additional support available from organisations throughout Devon and Cornwall. That means whatever question or problem you have they should be able to provide the answer or link you to the best solution. Essentially, it takes all the worry of having to find someone who you can trust to give impartial and up-to-date information or assistance.

Community Safety Unit

The Community Safety Unit (CSU) supports the Plymouth Community Safety Partnership in reducing crime and improving community safety in the city.

The unit includes staff from the Council and the Police and is linked to the Drug and Alcohol Action Team, the Youth Offending Team and the Anti-social Behaviour Unit. They also work directly with Plymouth 2020, the local strategic partnership, and with the Council’s Safer and Smarter Group.

Neighbourhood Renewal Unit logo

Neighbourhood Renewal Unit

The Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU) is responsible for overseeing the Government's comprehensive neighbourhood renewal strategy. A strategy that responds to local circumstances rather than directs everything from Whitehall.

It aims to harness the hundreds of billions of pounds spent by key government departments rather than relying on one-off regeneration spending. A range of different programmes has been established to determine local needs and to pilot new ways to fight deprivation in our poorest, most deprived communities.

The NRU is part of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and working with government office neighbourhood renewal teams, they oversee and support local strategic partnerships in the 88 most deprived districts in England.

NHS Plymouth logo

NHS Plymouth has responsibility for providing our city’s non-acute community based health services such as nursing, rehabilitation, learning disabilities and mental health services. They also has responsibility for the services provided by our GPs, although doctors themselves remain independent contractors. As well as providing non-acute services, they are responsible for the commissioning (buying) of acute services from Derriford Hospital.

On a practical level, NHS Plymouth allows the city’s own GPs, community nurses and health workers to make the decisions about how health services are provided locally.

First launched in 1981, Nomis houses an extensive range of government statistical information on the UK labour market including Employment, Unemployment, Earnings, Labour Force Survey and Jobcentre Plus vacancies.
