Social inclusion and community cohesion
Our role in the council
The Social Inclusion Unit is responsible for leading on all equality, diversity, community cohesion, financial and social inclusion issues relating to Plymouth City Council and the citizens of Plymouth.
The unit has specific responsibilities and expertise in relation to the protected characteristics of:
- Age
- Faith, religion and belief
- Disability
- Gender
- Gender reassignment
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Race
- Sexual orientation
Our services are delivered with our diverse communities in mind. By working with officers throughout the Council and with our partners we support and advise on cultural and organisational change both internally and externally.
Our vision

- Encourage participation in public life/activities
