Gender
One of our key corporate objectives is to ensure that everyone in our community has equal access to all our services.
We have published our first Gender Equality Scheme (GES) to explain what we intend to do to promote equality of opportunity for men and women, boys and girls and transgender people in all that we do.
The GES provides the framework for our work around gender equality and sets out what is expected from everyone in the Council. It sets out the actions we will take over the next three years to better understand the different needs and priorities of men and women, to address these needs and work towards our ambition to mainstream gender equality.
We welcome the introduction of the gender equality duty, which came into force on 6 April 2007. We are keen to deliver our responsibilities under this duty and to make sure we take positive action to promote equality between men and women and eliminate unlawful (direct and indirect) sex discrimination and harassment.
