Draft Equality Scheme
As a Local Authority, we are bound by legislation to comply with our statutory duties to promote equality in the areas of disability, gender and race.
These duties require us to develop and put into place schemes outlining what we will do to promote equality:
- for people with disabilities
- between men and women
- for and between people from different racial groups
We wanted to go beyond our legal responsibilities and produce a single equality scheme that included all areas of equality.
Plymouth City Council’s Equality Scheme will bring together, for the first time, the six key equality strands:
- age
- disability
- gender
- race
- religion
- belief/non-belief
- sexual orientation
It aims to put equality and diversity at the heart of all that we do. For a copy of the draft document please contact our Social Inclusion Unit by telephone on 01752 304321 or by email at inclusion@plymouth.gov.uk.
