Bereavement
What you need to do
We realise that there is a lot to cope with when someone dies.
To help us update your records, if you are a member of the family, the executor, the solicitor, or simply a friend who is dealing with the estate of the deceased, we need you to provide the following information:
- the full name and address of the person who has died
- the date they died
- if they owned or rented their house
- if the home was rented, the date the tenancy ended, and the landlord’s name and address
- the name and address of the executor
- if anyone is still living in the property, tell us who they are
- if there is now only one resident aged 18 years or over, please tell us and we will reduce your bill by 25%
- a home left unoccupied by a person who has died is exempt from council tax until the date probate is granted, and for up to six months after that date, if it stays unoccupied
