Boundaries

New ward boundaries were approved by the Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, with effect from 1 May 2003. Plymouth is divided into 20 wards.

As well as alterations to ward boundaries the City Council will hold elections by thirds instead of electing the council as a whole every four years. The number of councillors allocated to Plymouth is 57, with 17 wards electing three representatives and three wards electing two representatives.

The first election on the new boundaries was held on the 1 May 2003. This will be followed by elections in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 (no further local elections are held in the year of a County Council election ie 2005, 2009 etc).

The first to retire will be the Councillor elected with the lowest number of votes at the 2003 Local Elections. The second to retire will be the councillor elected with the next smallest number of votes at the 2003 Local Elections.

Plymouth Wards

Red - Labour, Blue - Conservative

Each ward has 3 Member representatives except Drake, Plympton Chaddlewood and Plympton Erle which has 2 Member representatives.

Boundaries - Parliamentary constituencies

A general review of parliamentary constituency boundaries commenced on 8 May 2003 and should be completed by 12 April 2007. Details of the review can be obtained from the Boundary Commission for England website. Further information will be posted on this site when available.
