The Corporate Plan 2008 to 2011
The council is a large, complex, democratic organisation that provides a variety of services for and on behalf of our city. The Corporate Plan helps us make sense of this complex world. It is focused on:
- an assessment of current performance and future challenges
- a rolling three-year programme of corporate improvement priorities
- the council’s contribution to achieving the shared vision for the city
- how we will organise ourselves to achieve our ambitions
- how we will hold ourselves to account
It sets the context for the council’s 2008 to 2009 and future budgets and the more detailed plans to improve services and provide value for money. It is about ensuring we are fit for purpose and focused on our residents and customers.
At the centre of the Corporate Plan are 14 corporate improvement priorities based under the following headings:
- Improving our customers’ experience
- Improving our city
- Improving our council
The corporate improvement priorities are focused on those areas where we need to significantly up our performance or have to meet major new challenges. They are the areas where we need to give additional corporate attention and support for a time. The aim is to fix things and move on.
We remain committed to the vision that Plymouth will be recognised as "one of Europe’s finest, most vibrant waterfront cities, where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone". That it will be:
- a healthy place to live and work
- a wealthy city which creates and shares prosperity
- a safe and strong city
- a wise city that is a location for learning, achievement and leisure
The Corporate Plan will help us deliver that vision, while our corporate improvement priorities are increasingly cross cutting in their potential impact. For instance, our priority for improving accessibility covers over time transport action plans for health, education, employment, shopping and leisure and for regeneration areas.
The Corporate Plan is part of our three-year business planning cycle and supersedes previous corporate performance plans. It is not just another document though. Its importance lies in how we think about it, communicate it and use it.
The Corporate Plan 2008 to 2011 was approved by Council on 3 March 2008 subject to some delegated minor amendments which have since been made.
