Arts development

Plymouth's Arts Development Unit seeks to support and develop the Arts and to maximize the role they play in Plymouth's social, community and economic life and to raise the city's profile regionally and nationally.

The vision is to develop a strong, outward looking arts and creative industries sector of national excellence that plays an active role in making Plymouth a dynamic, vibrant, world-class creative city.

The Arts Unit is staffed by a full time team of two and its prime functions are:

Policy development

Advising the Council on and developing appropriate policies and initiatives to sustain and develop the arts.

Client support and grants

Providing on-going support to a number of 'core clients' and using the Council's Arts Strategy Budget to deliver the Arts Partnership Plan and its successor strategies.

Development projects

Advice and information

Providing advice and information to members of the public, artists, voluntary and statutory agencies and arts organisations on a whole manner of subjects and developing and maintaining publicly accessible databases to assist this. The Arts Unit maintains a free email list which is the principal means of circulating information about opportunities.
