Local arts initiatives

GAS - The Group for Arts in Swilly

The Arts Unit is working with the Group for Arts in Swilly, who launched in October 2005 to offer arts activities to local residents in North Prospect following a consultation process with the community.

The Arts Unit recently wrote a bid with GAS for the Comic Relief Disadvantaged Communities programme and are please to announce that they have been awarded the funding to be able to offer arts activities in the Easter and Summer holidays 2007.

All Stars Theatre Group

All Stars Theatre Group was set up to provide activities for adults with learning disabilities by volunteers who provide workshops and performance opportunities for their members.

The Arts Unit have worked with the group to write a bid to Awards for All, and are delighted that they have received the full amount asked for of nearly £8,000. This grant will help them develop their skills in theatre, music and the arts and will fund theatre, costume and other workshops, technical equipment, and performances such as Stars in Their Eyes, and an annual Christmas Show. All members have learning disabilities, therefore the grant will give the group an opportunity to take part in activities that they would not normally have access to. It will undoubtedly give them a better quality of life and raise their self confidence.
