Creative Partnerships
Creative Partnerships is a programme managed by Arts Council England, offering young people in 36 areas across England the opportunity to develop their creativity and ambition by building partnerships between schools and creative organisations, businesses and individuals. Creative Partnerships aims to demonstrate the pivotal role creativity can play in transforming education.
Creative Partnerships was launched in Plymouth in September 2004 and by June 2005 was working in over 70 of the city's schools on a wide range of projects and programmes. The Plymouth Initiative works closely with an earlier one set up in Cornwall in 2003, in a unique regional collaboration that is gaining national attention and interest, and that has funding to run until spring 2008. For more information please contact Creative Partnerships on 01752 225806 or visit the Creative Partnerships website.
Plymouth Community Partnership (PCP)
Plymouth Community Partnership exists to support a strong and vibrant community sector in Plymouth through the provision of funding advice, training, business planning and organisational advice, a payroll service, a resource centre and conferences. Also community and voluntary sector representatives are elected by PCP members to sit on various strategic bodies in the city such as Plymouth 2020, the Local Strategic Partnership. For more information please visit Plymouth Community Partnership and Network Plymouth websites.
Awards for All
Awards for All is a Lottery grants scheme aimed at local communities. They award grants of between £500 and £5,000, increased to £10,000 in 2006 in a simple and straightforward way. They fund projects that enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, as well as projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community. Visit the Awards for All website.

- Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
- Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
- Home Office (HO)
- Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
- Department of Health (DOH)
- Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
- Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM)
They are well placed to tackle issues that cut across the boundaries of more than one Whitehall department and as part of central Government, they help inform the development of departments' policies from a regional perspective. Visit the Government Office South West website.
Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
The DCMS is responsible for Government policy on the arts, sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums and galleries, broadcasting, film, the music industry, press freedom and regulation, licensing, gambling and the historic environment.
It is also responsible for the listing of historic buildings and scheduling of ancient monuments, the export licensing of cultural goods, the management of the Government Art Collection and for the Royal Parks Agency. The DCMS's aim is to improve the quality of life for all through cultural and sporting activities, to support the pursuit of excellence and to champion the tourism, creative and leisure industries. Its vision is to extend excellence and improve access.
To achieve this, they have developed four strategic priorities around which they organise work:
- children and young people - enhancing access to a fuller cultural and sporting life for children and young people and giving them the opportunity to develop their talents to the full
- community - opening up our institutions to the wider community to promote lifelong learning and social cohesion
- economy - maximising the contribution which the tourism, creative and leisure industries can make to the UK's economy
- delivery - modernising the way we deliver our services by ensuring our sponsored bodies are set and meet targets which put consumers first
Visit the Department for Culture, Media and Sport website.
South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA)
The South West of England Regional Development Agency was established in 1999. Its most important role is to ensure the long-term economic success of the region.
