Plymouth Music Forum – making Plymouth sound great
Plymouth is a music-friendly city, boasting excellent musicians and venues.
You can enjoy music in its many forms in our city: from a symphony to an opera to a rock gig to a blues-jam.
We've got a strong music-education network, enabling people of all ages and abilities to get involved with music and share its benefits.
The Plymouth Music Forum exists to support our city's diverse music ecology.

The Plymouth Music Forum's mission is to:
- communicate with, share information about and promote the Plymouth music scene
- represent and support places, spaces, music organisations, venues and music promoters
- connect strategically with regional and national forums and Government
The Plymouth Music Forum seeks to work effectively using the power of the individuals involved to make a positive and tangible difference to how music is perceived in Plymouth and beyond.
Terms of reference:
The Plymouth Music Forum is made up of representatives from Plymouth music industry and music education, including:
- Peninsula Arts: The public arts programme of the University of Plymouth
- Plymouth Music Zone: A dynamic community music organisation
- Deep Blue Sound: Offering sound engineering, music production, DJ production and music performance courses
- City College Plymouth: Home of PIPPA; The Plymouth Institute for Production, Performance and Arts
- The Plymouth Herald: The city's newspaper, covering music entertainment
The Plymouth Music Forum is chaired by Katie Thompson (chair@plymouthmusicforum.org) and vice-chair is Clare Robinson (vicechair@plymouthmusicforum.org).
Operation:
The function of Plymouth Music Forum is:
- To provide a proactive voice for music industry and education in Plymouth
- To promote Plymouth's music scene and its benefits
- To connect strategically to the region and the nation's music sector
- To strengthen communication within the sector
Meetings:
Quarterly at dates fixed at the start of the year, presided over by a chair and vice-chair elected annually, with additional figures from the music industry and public sector invited to attend specific meetings.
Every meeting will have minutes and action points and these will be circulated as soon as possible after the meeting.
