Tubs and Planters Workshop

27 May
Mount Edgcumbe Park

Do you want to make the most of your tubs and hanging baskets this year? Why not come along and talk to the experts for all those handy hints and tips. Bring your favourite tubs and baskets along and we will have all the plants, compost etc to purchase on site at a reduced rate.

There will be a demonstration by our gardening expert, followed by tea and coffee before you get your hands dirty and create your own masterpiece. Meeting at Barrow Park Complex at 10.30am, the event will last approximately two hours and costs £4 per person. Due to limited space, booking is essential.

Creepy Crawly Show

27 May
Mount Edgcumbe Park

For the price of your entrance ticket to Mount Edgcumbe House, you can see, for one day only, the Creepy Crawly Show!

Join Entomologist Karen Wilshaw for our very own Creepy Crawly Show. Come and get up close and personal with live insect specimens such as Giant Atlas Moths (the worlds largest moth). Examine eggs and wings through the microscope and learn about insect life cycles and habitats. Find out how to encourage butterflies to your garden and discover how to breed your own butterflies and moths at home. There will be an opportunity to buy a small selection of pupae for home breeding. This is a drop-in event suitable for all ages.

Workshop is free on the presentation of a valid entrance ticket for the House.

Learn how the gardens were originally created, and who designed them, where the fascinating shell seat came from and who influenced the overall design here at Mount Edgcumbe. With an amazing variety of rare and unusual plants to see on the tour, your day will be full of surprises!

Meeting at Cremyll Gates at 1.30pm, the event will last approximately two hours and costs £3 per person. Due to limited space, booking is essential.

Forest School at Mount Edgcumbe

27 and 28 May
Mount Edgcumbe Park

What are your children doing for the half term holiday?  Why not let them join us for two consecutive days of fun in the woods exploring, making dens and learning about nature, enjoying a hot chocolate around the campfire, playing games and having a wonderful winter adventure! Although the two days will be designed to follow on from each other, the adventure will be just as much fun for children wanting to attend for one day only.

The day starts at 9.45am and runs until 2.15pm and costs £35 per child for both days, alternatively £20 per child per day. Your child will need to bring a packed lunch, drink, warm waterproof outdoor clothing and stout shoes or wellingtons, as the session will run come rain or shine.

The event is run by fully qualified and insured Forest School leaders from the Forest School Programme which runs in conjunction with Ofsted. All leaders hold current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and First Aid Certificates.

Move It – Flick Book Family Workshop

Sunday 12 July
Sessions at 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm

In this fun workshop you will have the opportunity to create your own Flick Book through use of colour, cut outs and drawing in response to the lively water colour drawings made in the 19th century by the Pasley Sisters, currently exhibited at Mount Edgcumbe. Suitable for 7yrs + with adult help.

Going Bats at Mount Edgcumbe

30 May

Join us for a nocturnal adventure and let our colonies of bats be your guide. With rare species calling Mount Edgcumbe home, you could be in for a real treat with this expedition.

Meeting on the terrace at the front of the house at 8pm, the walk will take approximately two to three hours and finish off with hot soup and cost of £4 per person. Please make sure that you wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for the walk. Due to limited spaces, booking is essential.

Introduction to Tai Chi

17 June

Relax with us here at Mount Edgcumbe and learn to take life in your stride. This introduction to the dynamic form of moving meditation which is Tai Chi will be under the expert tutelage of an instructor from Tai Chi Nation.

Meet on the terrace at the house for a 9.30am start the session will last approximately 1½ hrs and cost £4 per person. You will need to wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes (not running shoes).

Tree Trail

5 June
Mount Edgcumbe Park

Come to Mount Edgcumbe and take a walk through the gardens with our experienced guide on the tree trail. Lear to identify various trees and gain an insight into the unusual as you explore the new and historical specimens around the grounds for only £4 per person.

Meet at Cremyll gates at 6.45pm, remember to wear sturdy walking shoes and bring along an outdoor coat just in case for this two hour expedition.

Introduction to Painting

13 June
Mount Edgcumbe Park

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with local artist Louise Courtnell to capture some of Cornwall’s most beautiful landscape in watercolours, oils or acrylics. Louise will work with you throughout the day giving advice, tips on your use of materials and hints on the painting techniques that have made her such a popular artist.

Meeting at Barn Pool Picnic area at 9.45am for a 10am start the course will run until 4pm and costs £20 per person. You should bring all your own equipment for your class. Family Bushcraft Day

20 June

Enjoy a family adventure with our experienced rangers learning all about the great outdoors. Learn how to build a shelter, light a fire without matches and even forage for food!

All children must be accompanied by an adult with no more than 2 children per adult. Tickets are adult + one child - £10, adult + two children - £13. Meet at the Penlee Battery car park at 10am wearing suitable clothing and footwear, you should bring a packed lunch and drink with you. The day will run until 3pm. There are limited spaces on this event, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

There will be games, arts and craft, adventures making dens and camp fires whilst learning about the natural environment and how to appreciate it.

A rare chance to see an enchanting pre-cinema entertainment, a Victorian Magic Lantern Show!

For the first time at Mount. Edgcumbe, Bartley's Magic Lanterns present 'Zoro - aster's Magic Carnival' - a half hour show of visual delights including the amazing, colourful and eerily beautiful, Chromatrope Living Butterfly!


Walk on the Wild Side

5 July

Take a guided walk around Mount Edgcumbe and see the delights on offer here. Our knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the flora and fauna of the landscape, a little of the history of the surroundings you will be walking through as well as pointing out the abundance of wildlife that lives here.

Meeting at Maker car park at 10.30am you will make your way back through the park to the starting point. The excursion will take approximately three hours and cost £6 per person, spaces are limited so please book early.


Painting and Drawing Adult Workshop

5 July
All day session 11am to 3.30pm

Join Plymouth Artist Richard Allman and spend a day drawing the magnificent trees and buildings in the park and use a variety of approaches, from clean line and dramatic tone to unique textures, large scale and experimental methods. No previous drawing experience necessary but please be prepared to experiment and get messy! If possible we’ll work outside and then move indoors to develop these images.

Basic materials will be provided but please bring your own if you wish.

Join us for insect stories and songs. Childrens book specialist, Libby Allman will be reading from a selection of children’s books all with a creepy crawly theme. Action songs and sing alongs suitable for babies, young children and their families.

Classic Car Rally

Willow Lantern Making Family Workshop

Sessions at 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm

Use willow, tissue paper, masking tape and glue to constuct amazing lanterns to light up your home and garden. Suitable for 7yrs+ with adult help.

Edgcumbe Explorer

8 August
Mount Edgcumbe Park

Enjoy a fun day exploring the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe. Be transported back to the time of early explorers with only a map and the landmarks to guide you!

Admission is £2 per adult, £1 per child and under fives go free. Places are limited and must be booked in advance by completing and returning a booking form by Friday 31 July. Please complete the booking form which can be downloaded from the documents table below.

On the day meet us on the lawn next to the Cremyll Ferry and wear comfy footwear and layers.

Spin It - Zoeotrope Family Workshop

19 August
Session at 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm

Have fun exploring your creativity in response to the Pasley Sisters ‘insect adventures’ by making a sequence of drawings/images to create the illusion of motion. The images fit inside the cylinder of the Zoetrope, each image will be slightly different from the one before it. As the cylinder is spun, the images appear to move when viewed through the slits.

A Zoetrope is a moving image device invented in the early 19th century as a popular form of entertainment for both children and adults. Suitable for 7yrs+ with adult help.

Copper Metal Working Family Workshop

23rd August
Sessions at 11am to 1.15pm and 1.45pm to 4pm

Using copper plate and metal working tools, come and practise the ancient craft of Copper Beating and Repouse. Join metal working artists Thrussell and Thussell (a father and son team) to design and produce your very own copper plaque using the insect drawings in the Pasley Exhibition as inspiration. This workshop is suitable for adults and children from 8yrs and upwards.

Animated Insects - Animation Family Workshop

Military Vehicle Trust Weekend
