Iyhat and Tairy

The Museum has two inner coffins, one of which you can see in the Ancient Egypt Gallery. The coffins are beautifully decorated and date from around 700BC. One belonged to a priest called Iyhat, the other once housed the Lady Tairy.

To find out more about the coffins and how they came to Plymouth you can read an article written by Dr Aidan Dodson which was published by the Egypt Exploration Society in the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology.

You can also download a translation of the inscriptions on the coffin of Iyhat, kindly provided by Councillor David Salter.
