Highbury Trust - adult special educational needs
The Highbury Trust (formerly Plymouth Mencap) is a day centre for adults with learning and physical disabilities and a registered charity. They visit the museum on a weekly basis and produce artwork based on the museum’s exhibitions and collections. A recent project was inspired by our Ancient Egyptian Gallery and named Mummy Madness. The group learnt about Ancient Egyptian culture and took inspiration from the objects in the gallery to create their own mummies, and their cases.
Other projects have included weaving, mosaics, and a large wall hanging for our Human Cargo exhibition in 2007 which can be seen in the Learning Centre, our new education room.
For more information about our work with adult special educational needs groups have a look on our community projects page. If you or your group would like to get involved with the museum, please contact us.
