Come along and join in the fun with our creative workshops held during each school holiday and half term!
Spring holiday 2010

Fishing in the River
Wednesday 7 April
Create a collage of fun fish based on the fantastic paintings in our ‘Kurt Jackson: River’ exhibition.
Colour and Collect
Thursday 8 April
Be inspired by Sir John St. Aubyn, the subject of our ‘The Secret Life of a Collector’ exhibition and discover more about the Museum’s collections! Have fun drawing and colouring in pictures of some of our artefacts and create your own mini collection.
In our Nature
Wednesday 14 April
Look at and handle objects from our natural history collection and enjoy some related art activities. You can also bring in your own rocks or fossils for identification by our Natural History team!
Egg Hunt
Thursday 15 April
Hunt around the Museum for different birds’ eggs, find out lots more about birds, eggs and join in with some fun egg-themed art activities!

Take the plunge with a range of art materials and create a colourful river scene that you can take home.

Wednesday 4 August
Take your lead from our major ‘Japanese Sashiko Textiles’ exhibition and produce your own Japanese fan. If the weather is hot it will cool you down. If the sun isn’t shining it will cheer you up!
Ancient Origami
Thursday 5 August
Try your hand at the ancient art of origami and make your favourite flowers and animals.
Crazy with Colour
Wednesday 11 August
Take your inspiration from our ‘Lens’ by Glenn Carter installation, butterflies, light and colour to create some crazy tissue-paper stained glass-effect pictures.
Playing with Paper
Thursday 12 August
Use some Asian influences to make traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls and origami samurai hats from paper.
Beautiful Bookmarks
Wednesday 18 August
Create your own bookmarks in the shape of samurai swords and Japanese kimonos.
Go Fish
Thursday 19 August
Make some traditional Japanese koi fish to brighten up your day!
Zen Gardens
Wednesday 25 August
Produce a peaceful picture of a Zen garden. Why not have a go at creating one in our Learning Centre where we’ll have trays of sand and pebbles at the ready?

Listen to stories while you use paper and fabric to fashion some Oriental-inspired patterns.
