Online exhibitions

Use this area of our website to view online versions of some of our most popular local history exhibitions:

  • People's Plymouth - The region's most ambitious social history project. Over a thousand local people participated in this exhibition, which combined objects, photographs, written memories and oral history. The exhibition was themed into areas - Growing and Learning, Shopping and Working, Playing and Loving, Housing and Moving, Living and Dying. It told the story of Plymouth over the past 100 years through the personal experiences of the city’s residents and was supported by the Millennium Festival, Reflections and South West Museums Council (SWMC).
  • Millbay Docks 150 - An exhibition that celebrated the 150th anniversary of the opening of Brunel's Great Western Docks at Millbay. This display looked at the past, present and future of this corner of Plymouth - exploring the Docks' long and robust history. The exhibition was sponsored by English Cities Fund - a consortium made up of English Partnerships, AMEC and Legal & General and the lead developer for the Millbay regeneration scheme.
  • Brunel 200 - Isambard Kingdom Brunel was one of our most inspirational engineers and 2006 marked a year of celebrations for his birthday bicentenary. This graphics-based display was researched by our Maritime Heritage Officer and was displayed at Plymouth Dome and then at the Museum and highlighted some of his most famous engineering achievements, with a focus on his work in Plymouth and the South West.
