Free drama workshops for secondary schools
Are you planning for the autumn term? Would your students benefit from the chance to work with a professional performer in response to one of our headline exhibitions?
In connection with our 'Comedians: From the 1940s to Now' exhibition, we are offering students the opportunity to work with professional Plymouth-based actor, Andy Blackwell, on practical comedy and drama workshops. The workshops will look at comedy legends, impersonation, joke-telling and timing, the psychology of humour and the effects that comedy has on its audiences, as well as provide a chance for any class jokers or playground pranksters to test out their best material!
The sessions should provide a hilarious insight into the history of 20th century British humour, what it tells us about who we are and our society. They will aim to improve communication and presentation skills and self-confidence and can be adjusted to suit your specific curriculum needs, if required.
Workshops will run from 10am to 12 noon or 1pm to 3pm on the following dates.
16, 17, 18, 23, 25 and 30 September
1, 2, 7 and 8 October
You can book morning or afternoon sessions – or both if you wish!
There will be a unique opportunity for interested students to perform a showback in early October at a young peoples evening of entertainment here at the Museum.
Please telephone us on 01752 304774 if you would like to discuss the workshops, get more information or book your group(s). Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis so please try and book in before the end of term! We look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this unique experience and opportunity!
