The Core

We have our own Core website, where you can find out more about what we do. You'll need Flash Player to view it, which can be downloaded for free from the downloads page!

We are a group of young people aged between 13 and 18 who are interested in Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery - as well as a variety of other random subjects!

Our aim is to: “get involved in and help to organise projects and events and discuss ideas that will appeal to young people like ourselves. Through these activities we hope to create an environment that young people enjoy and feel involved in, and make the Museum and Art Gallery fun and interactive.”

To find out more about what we do, have a look at the Funny Side Up video. Or look at other pages to find about events we've run, such as gigs, comedy workshops and even a costume project!

Background

We work with members of staff at the Museum and Art Gallery to devise or get involved in a number of different projects. We also get the opportunity to see behind the scenes. We have a serious job to do but it’s also important that we have fun.

We meet at the Museum each Friday from 4pm to 6pm. Our bus tickets are paid for and snacks are provided. If we are involved in a big project we may need extra time to meet on another day to make sure everything gets done.

As a member, all the time that you put into The Core is recorded and a certificate is issued for your Record of Achievement. It’s also possible to undertake parts of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Interested? Visit the Core website for more information, or contact the Learning Team to find out how you can join us. Here's what some of our previous members have had to say:

"I just want to say a massive thank you for everything over the past two years. I would honestly not be in the situation I am in - going off to do a Masters, without the opportunities you have given me."

"PCM&AG has a massive place in my heart and I will never forget where my interests in a career in museums or art galleries began."

"Gig in the Gallery is definitely up there as one of my favourite moments in my life and I would not have been able to do it without your incredible support, (and) patience!"
