Volunteering with the museum is an invaluable way to help preserve the collections, improve our knowledge of them, enhance access to those collections and information, enthuse about what Plymouth holds, entertain and engage our visitors, learn something new, have fun and get involved.
Volunteering can offer you the opportunity to meet up professionally and socially with other volunteers and museum staff, add experience to your CV, get involved in something unusual or simply get out of the house.
The aim of our work is to provide excellent visitor experience, collections care and management, and to promote the museum to the people of Plymouth. Volunteer projects help us to do more, reach more and offer more.
We offer a variety of projects at different times of the year and details of the latest opportunities will appear here.
Volunteer opportunity - flags and banners research project
The Museum is looking for a volunteer with some basic interest or knowledge of flags/banners or textiles to attend a specialist research training day in Exeter on Tuesday 14 June.
This will be followed by an independent 'Flying the Flag' research project in relation to Plymouth Museum’s under-researched collection of flags and banners. The dozen painted and embroidered banners include Co-op, civic, schools, societies, churches and synagogue.
The volunteer should ideally have an interest in local history and textiles, with the research skills, time and stamina to follow this project through.
If interested, please contact Tabitha Cadbury by emailing email@example.com or by calling 01752 304774.
