Support to improve children's behaviour

The Behaviour Support Team aims to improve children's behaviour by making changes together.

The team is a multi-agency team led by an educational psychologist, which includes support workers, social workers and teachers. Schools can request all kinds of support and training from the team. Where help is targeted at a particular child, the school, parents and the child submit a joint referral. Talk to your child's school if you feel help is needed.

What the team does:

  • The team works with children, families and teachers - building friendships, boosting confidence and helping children enjoy school life.
  • The team works alongside teachers, support staff and governors to find practical ways to increase positive behaviour.
  • Work is undertaken with primary children, their families', schools and other agencies.
  • On Thursday afternoons, in term time, the team offers a behaviour listening line - called Soundout - for everyone. For head teachers the team provides Callout - same day inclusion advice for challenging behaviour. There is an opportunity for school staff and other agencies to call in and view a selection of books, games, videos, software and other resources - Findout.
  • The team also supports local projects and holds its own events and open days.
  • Support is offered to parents. The team offers free, practical, fun sessions for parents and carers across the city. These are called Parent Survival Clubs and they are full of tips and ideas to help with behaviour at home.
