Support for students with communication and interaction needs
The aim of the Communication and Interaction Service is to support children and young people with communication and interaction needs, their parents and teachers including children on the Autistic Spectrum and those with speech and language difficulties.
The service consists of teachers and support assistants who work closely with children, schools, parents, the psychology service and a range of other professionals.
Referrals are made directly by schools or through the educational psychologist working with the school.
What the service does:
- Advises teachers on individual pupil needs
- Meets and support all school staff and parents
- Works with pupils or staff in the classroom
- Holds regular meetings that are for all interested professionals
- Advises via a telephone help line
- Lends resources to schools which will develop a range of skills including social, emotional and language development, plans for group work and gross motor skills (physical skills), the service has a number of information books that can be lent
- Provides in service training on a range of issues relating to communication and interaction
- Hosts regular parent interest group meetings
