Support for children and young people at risk of exclusion

The Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) Team aims to secure consistent ways of working to meet the needs of pupils and their school when resolving individual behavioural issues in order to prevent further permanent exclusion.

The EOTAS Team is organised by a Senior Education Officer from the City Council's Department for Lifelong Learning with support from the Education Welfare Team.

EOTAS provides the following services:

• Advice and support to schools with procedures relating to fixed term and permanent exclusions.
• Works with schools in supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural needs and thus striving to avoid fixed term and permanent exclusions.
• Advice to parents about exclusion procedures.
• Works with educational psychologists and other officers from the City Council's Department for Lifelong Learning as appropriate, to prevent permanent exclusions or when necessary arrange further placement.
• Liaison with other agencies as appropriate.
• Advice at exclusion meetings in schools.
• Makes representations at Independent Appeals.
• Support pupils and parents in arranging post exclusion placements.
