Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks for school governors
All governors are required to hold an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure from autumn 2008 but, recognising the importance of safeguarding children across the city, we committed to make it compulsory from 1 April 2007.
The introduction of enhanced CRB checks for all new and reappointed governors progressed really well. So, with the system well under control attention was focused on the immense task of checking governors who commenced their terms of office in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
A list of governors who have been checked will be sent to the relevant school at the beginning of each term. We ask Chairs of Governors and clerks to encourage all governors with outstanding checks to complete them as quickly as possible.
