The role of the Liaison Governor Group
The Liaison Governor Group is the Governor Development Team’s critical friend!
These governors join a team of governors who monitor and work with the Governor Development Team to ensure that they are providing the training and support governors require. Regular reports will be given on all aspects of the service, including attendance at training, number of enquiries and news on latest initiatives. The Liaison Governors Group is the first to know if the team are hitting targets and is the group of people to advise on service development.
The liaison governor should be an enthusiastic and active governor who also:
- Provides leadership in organising support and training for the governing body
- Encourages governors to voice their training needs
- Promotes the termly training programme produced by the Governor Development Team by reminding governors of the training and support available or by communicating their training needs to the Governor Development Team
- Encourages individual governors to report back to the governing body about training courses undertaken
- Attends liaison governor meetings
- Acts as a link between governors and the Governor Development Team
- Uses the liaison governors’ meetings to network with other governors to share ideas and experiences
- Ensures that the governing body agrees and monitors a training and support budget, which is appropriate to meeting their governors’ collective and individual training needs
- Encourages all governors to become involved in the work of the governing body and the school
- Maintains a training log of all training attended by governors
The governor will also benefit from meeting other governors across the city and sharing experiences and news. Minutes of these meetings are available from the documents table below.
