Aims
How does PAG fulfil its aims and how can we most effectively work together?
- To assist and support governing bodies to further the interests of the children and staff in all our schools - we issue termly newsletters, hold an Annual General Meeting in June and an Assembly in spring or autumn. We are shortly to introduce a website. We are represented on all the major committees concerning education (see last point) and have a direct link to the National Governors’ Association which feeds views to Government ministers.
- To encourage co-operation between governing bodies and between schools - we facilitate discussion and aim to improve communications - this will be particularly important with the introduction of the Education Improvement Partnership Initiative.
- To provide a vehicle for expressing the views of representative governors to the Local Authority (LA) on matters concerning education in schools and colleges - we can only be successful in this role with your support. We need to know what aspects of Governance - both on national and local issues - concern you. PAG should be a vehicle for lobbying and we need to feed local governors’ views into the LA education committees on which we sit.
- To further good relationships with the LA and other relevant bodies - we work closely with the LA with the Governor Development Officer attending all Executive meetings. We also welcome the Church Liaison Officer from the Church of England Diocese. We are represented on a wide range of LA committees and working parties.

Assemblies
Plymouth Association of Governors held a successful 2006 Assembly on 6 June at Stoke Damerel Community College. We were pleased to welcome two key speakers - Bronwen Lacey, Director of Children’s Services and Barry Keel, Chief Executive, Plymouth City Council.
Bronwen Lacey gave an interesting presentation on the progress of the new Children’s Services department and a copy of her presentation can be download from the documents table below. Bronwen Lacey thanked governors for their support in running schools and assured them that she would be working closely with PAG to ensure the governors’ voice was heard at all levels of planning for the future.
Barry Keel spoke on the Local Strategic Partnership and his presentation can be download from the documents table below.
PAG Assembly 2007
The last PAG Assembly was held on 11 September 2007 at Goosewell Primary School. We were fortunate to have Judith Bennett - Chair of the National Governors Association to forward the case against moving to Trust School Status and Don Paterson - Chair of a Devon Secondary School to forward the case for moving to Trust School Status. The topic was then opened for discussion with a question and answers session. PAG was delighted to welcome so many governors. Light refreshments were provided.
A copy of the invitation for the PAG Assembly can be downloaded from the documents table below.
