The school profile
The Education Act 2005 included a statutory requirement for governing bodies of all maintained schools in England to prepare and publish a school profile annually. This replaced the previous requirement to publish a Governors’ Annual Report. (please note that at the moment nursery schools are still required to produce a Governors’ Annual Report)
The profile is intended to be a new and more effective way of conveying and comparing key information. The profile is lodged on the new Parents Centre website - but must also be made available upon request in hard copy and alternative languages and formats.
What is in the profile?
The DCSF (formally DfES) has pre-populated the sections containing performance data and the Ofsted summary. Schools are asked to complete the following sections:
- What have been our successes this year?
- What are we trying to improve?
- How well have our results changed over time?
- How are we making sure we are meeting the learning needs of individual pupils?
- How do we make sure our pupils are healthy, safe and well supported?
- What activities are available to all pupils?
- How are we working with parents and the community?
- What have pupils told us about the school and what have we done as a result?
- What do our pupils do after leaving school?
- What have we done in response to Ofsted?
How do we access the profile to enter information?
Your registration and password for the school profile are the same as your school’s login registrations and password for TeacherNet and Online Publications for Schools.
Do I have to complete it all in one go?
No. Schools may access the profile and complete all or some of the text boxes before finally publishing it.
What year’s do I have to cover?
Schools must complete the 2006 to 2007 profile which covers the academic year ending July 2007 by the end of the summer term 2008. The Key Stage data will not be generated until late 2008 or early 2009.
There is no need to report any KS1 data in the profiles.
Can I add the school logo?
Yes logos in jpg or gif format can be added. Links to the school website can also be included.
Do I still need to hold an annual meeting of parents?
No, the 2005 Education Act removed this requirement.
