Determined admission arrangements
By law, Plymouth City Council has to formally give notice of the extent of determined admission arrangements for maintained primary and secondary schools in the area and instances where the Indicated Admissions Number (IAN) for schools is higher than the Determined Admission Number. The part of the law that stipulates this action is The School Admissions (Admission Arrangements) (England) Regulations 2008. Public notices will be printed in the local newspaper by 1 May as confirmation.
The determined admission arrangements and the admission numbers can be downloaded below:
The admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in 2012/13 will be the same as those for 2011/12, as published on the school admissions page, with the following exceptions:
- Agreeing new timetables and admission processes for primary and secondary admissions at the normal point of entry and in-year admissions
- Remove designated catchment areas for community and voluntary controlled infant, junior and primary schools
- Redefine the treatment for children of multiple birth, such as twins, triplets and those born in the same academic year group to achieve a consistent approach to those of single birth
- Redefine the definition of a child’s home address to reflect planned changes to the Benefit Regulations
- Weston Mill Community Primary and Ernesettle Community School each increase their Planned Admission Number from 45 to 60 with effect from September 2012
- Poland to be included in the list of European Economic Area countries within the co-ordinated admission schemes
- Within the in-year co-ordinated admissions scheme, to extend the application date for service personnel and other Crown servants to up to 12 school weeks and to specify that the extended provision is to assist those subject to frequent movement, often at relatively short notice.
What if I want to object to the determined admission arrangements?
Under The School Admissions (Admission Arrangements) (England) Regulations 2008, a parent has the right of objection to the Schools Adjudicator for the following:
- Pre-existing selection arrangements. Such an objection must be by a parent of a child of compulsory school age receiving primary education;
- Where the admission number for a relevant age group is lower than the indicated admission number for that age group. Such an objection must be by a parent of a child who has attained the age of two and is receiving primary education. The Adjudicator is only required to determine the objection if not less than 10 parents have referred such an objection relating to the same admission arrangements/issue;
- Any aspect of the school's admission arrangements that do not comply with any mandatory requirements in the School Admissions Code or Part 3 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (school admissions). An objection relating to sixth form education may be made by the parent of a child who is, or will be, eligible to apply to the school whose admission arrangements are the subject of the objection and in all other cases, the parent of a child who has attained the age of 2 but is not above compulsory school age.
In the case of (1) or (2) above, the parent must be resident within the Plymouth City boundary.
Objections can be made to the Schools Adjudicator and should be sent to The Secretary, The Office of the Schools Adjudicator, Mowden Hall, Staindrop Road, Darlington DL3 9BG by 31 July 2011.
